ICA Event - Rise of Ransomware is Stopping Businesses. How can your organization Stay Resilient?
ISG "Trusted Partners" Speaking Series
Wednesday, 1 November 2017 / 19:00
Brent Reichow
Co-founder & CEO, Blueshift Data Protection

For years extortion has been a successful way for criminals to coerce money from victims. Extortion still exists but recently criminals have found a much more efficient way to extract the money - ransomware. Ransomware by definition is a form of malware that stops or limits access to systems, either by locking the screen or by locking your files. This is typically done with an encryption algorithm known only to the criminal. Money is demanded and until it’s paid the victim cannot use or gain access to their data.

Today, thousands of ransomware variations are targeting mobile devices, PCs and servers globally. Ransomware has attacked and successfully encrypted data on hundreds of thousands of devices in 2017 alone. And current reports predict ransomware damage costs to exceed US$5 Billion in 2017.

So when did this phenomena begin and why are we seeing such a rise in attacks?

Our speaker will share some history, bring us up to speed on the problem and share with us what this means to us and local businesses.

Finally, before our speaker leaves he will provide case studies of numerous Ransomware incidents in Japan and give us some best practices to protect your data and what you should do if ransomware were to strike.
